In June 2019, a new accessible dock was installed in Shubie Park across from the Fairbanks Centre to ensure that all visitors can enjoy the Shubenacadie Canal Waterway. The dock is an ADA-compliant EZ Launch® system that allows users to pull a canoe or kayak directly onto the dock to easily enter and exit the craft. The dock is fully wheelchair-accessible, as are the trails leading up to it.
This accessible dock is free for use by any member of the public, whether you have reduced mobility or you just want an easier time getting onto the water. An illustrated panel with instructions on use is attached to the dock.
In 2020, the dock was further upgraded by replacing the original wooden platform with a new build. The new platform sits more level with the EZ Launch, offers a handrail along the stairs, and will ensure that the dock remains accessible well into the future.
